Mission Statement
The Shanti Yoga Center devotes itself to serving Vancouver's Yoga Kula, with its highest aim being the awakening of ahimsa within us all.
 


A
fter years of teaching in a wide variety of settings, I am able to humbly welcome you to the Shanti Yoga Center.

I have shared yoga, on and off the mat, for over 16 years, from Vermont to Las Vegas, Idaho to Alaska to Oregon, and finally home to Vancouver. My teaching style is of mixed lineage, embracing a yoga that weaves together many facets of awareness to create a well balanced and heart centered vinyasa approach to hatha yoga.

Our classes at Shanti Yoga will gently blend the essential aspects of yoga therapy with the strong traditions of Iyengar, ashtanga, and viniyoga, as we cultivate calm through a flowing, challenging, yet meditative practice. My teaching is informed and inspired by my own ongoing practice, by the emerging yoga of my students, and by the tremendous insight of my teachers, most recently Sarah Powers, Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Angela Farmer, Doug Keller and Max Strom.

It is my respectful intention to integrate the discipline of a physical yoga practice with the devotion of self-study and the opening of the compassionate heart.

Donna LaFaye
I first encountered the joys of teaching when I began instructing tai chi 3 years ago, so it seems natural that 7 years of committed yoga practice has evolved into teaching yoga.  Yoga has given me a sweet taste of what it is to be present in this body, as well as some effective tools for seeing myself and others more compassionately.  I look forward to sharing what I have learned as we discover and embrace this powerful practice together.  

 



 


Heather Jolma Fray
I've been studying under Yvonne at the Shanti, both as a student for five years and as a teacher for two years, and continue to be amazed at the power a consistent yoga practice has on us all. In January of '07 I happily came on board as the Shanti Studio Assistant.  You will find me assisting before, during, and after various classes, teaching and subbing whenever possible, and continuing my formal study as an evolving Yoga Teacher.  I look forward to traveling on the extraordinary path of yoga with the amazing Shanti Yoga Kula!  

 


 


Jenna Eckert

I have been studying a variety of yoga styles (Iyengar, Kundalini, Kriya, Ashtanga) over the last 12 years and am so pleased to be sharing these practices with you at the Shanti. As a student and an instructor, I delight in the mind, body and spirit transformational powers of yoga, and enjoy the challenges we can face within ourselves through practicing yoga.

 

 


Jerri Clark
A dancer since childhood, I began my yoga journey 10 years ago as a new mom in an unfamiliar body with few chances to pause and breathe deeply. Through committed practice I have found solace and clarity in my life, and I am honored to now share yoga’s gifts with others. In addition to my ongoing study with Yvonne at the Shanti, I’ve enjoyed studying with Holiday Johnson, Ki McGraw, Bob Smith, Ana Forrest and Sherri Baptiste. The Shanti Kula is a blessed circle of friends, and I am humbled to participate as a student and teacher.

 
 




 

Julie McCoy Cox
As a teacher and a student, I am honored to be a part of the Shanti Yoga Center.  My yoga practice and my teaching has been a wonderful journey.  I have learned so much in my 17 years of teaching many different forms of movement.  In the last 7 years I have been continually humbled by the power of yoga. 
 
I am thankful to all of my teachers and my students over the years.  They have supported me as I have grown and evolved as a teacher and as a person.  My style of teaching has grown from my 8 years as a massage therapist, my training in Iyengar yoga and perhaps most importantly, listening and watching students as they share their practice with me.  The Shanti Yoga Center offers a unique and holistic approach to yoga that can make a powerful impact on they way you live your live.  Shanti Yoga welcomes you!
